Yoga Therapy

What is Yoga Therapy?

The Yoga therapy we offer at Yogaseads in Scheveningen is a one-on-one yoga practice, tailored specifically to your needs. Where there is dis-ease in the body, we aim to bring ease and harmony back. Through relaxation and breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga poses, we restore movement to areas of the body where it’s stuck, release tension where it’s held, and strengthen the "relaxation muscle"—the vagus nerve—just as you would train your biceps. This broadens your ‘window of tolerance,’ making you more resilient and helping you recognize when your stress system is activated, as well as how to calm down the nervous system. You will learn, or relearn, to connect with your body, mind and heart and understand what you truly need (back to union = yoga).

You will receive exercises to practice at home (it’s not mandatory), which may include movements or breathing exercises. We always start with a short conversation to check in on how you are doing. During yoga therapy, you will regularly be asked how you feel and what you are experiencing. This helps you stay aware of your body and allows us to adjust the practice if needed. It is not a talk-based therapy, but you are always, truly always, welcome to share your thoughts and express yourself within your own boundaries if that is what you need. Hands-on adjustments or touch are optional and, if applicable, only introduced at a later stage.

IS THIS FOR YOU?

Are you struggling with stress, anxiety or panic, fatigue, or lack of energy? Are you preparing for or recovering from surgery or illness, feeling "stuck," or not quite sure what’s going on? Then yoga therapy might be something for you. You don’t need any prior experience with yoga to benefit from Yoga Therapy. Feeling is not something to be understood, but something to be experienced—in the body!

Already much more common abroad than here in the Netherlands, yoga therapeutic bodywork is a way to apply all aspects of yoga in a personal manner, tailored completely to your individual situation and goals. This approach can help you feel better in your body—calmer, more balanced, and perhaps even help you understand yourself a bit more, so you can better cope with your life situation. Yoga therapy can also serve as valuable support alongside psychotherapy.
